When Lamb Of God arrived to the Heavy Metal spectrum, they immediately stomped the ground with lots of might and in a loud voice said: "we are here to kick your ass with some Pure American Metal"! The band was formed in 1994 in Richmond, Virginia as Burn the Priest but didn't catch their "break" until 2000 when they changed their name and released their full length album titled New American Gospel via Prosthetic and Metal Blade Records. Ever since then, the band has been one of the most hard working bands in the world and without having a "commercial" sound they have managed to gather a significant worldwide audience.

From the moment the first song from VII: Sturm Und Drang (available now via Epic and Nuclear Blast Records), "Still Echoes", is ignited it is very clear that the band made a conscious effort to write an ass kicking Heavy Metal album full of crushing songs. While their two previous album Wrath and Resolution were lacking the ferocity that made the band a household in the world of Metal, on VII: Sturm Und Drang the band definitely brought back the element that makes them such a unique group of musicians. And hearing Randy use his singing voice on "Overlord" is exactly why the Heavy Music community admire Randy Blythe's artistry!

Perhaps it was because of Randy's legal ordeal, which consequently lead the band to a forced break from the music scene, that reignited that ferocity. In other words, the band might have been burning out prior to Randy's arrest but were able to relight the fire that lead them to writing some awesome Metal songs! And for them to invite Chino Moreno from the DEFTONES and Greg Puciato from THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN to appear on their NEW album was an excellent move!

There is no doubt that the American Metal flag holders delivered their trademark punishing sound on their seventh studio album and this was in part thanks to producer Josh Wilbur.

What I've always liked about Lamb Of God is their ability to expand their musical style without losing sight of their ultimate goal. They also possess a "signature sound", which is harder and harder to find these days.

While trends come and go, Lamb Of god keep giving their collective middle fingers to musical acts that will remain unnamed but that will only be around momentarily. VII: Sturm Und Drang proves that the band have plenty of musical fuel to burn for years to come!
